(I'm TeslaGirl, btw, I just changed names and icon)

So some of you know that I'm furry. Lots of us are on 4HV. And being the nerds that we are, we'd want to pimp out anything we make with electronics.

The thing is, I have a fursona that's color changing that I want as a fursuit. Not that I can afford to, have the time to, or have the skills to do so currently, but I'd like a fursuit of the fursona (AC) that also changes color.

Because it's not two-toned like my main fursona, I can't exactly use EL-pads. Also, I'd like to keep a fur texture.

Hypothetically, is it possible to wire fiber optics into the other parts of the fur, and have it controlled by an arduino? As in, it's supposed to change on mood--the more relaxed AC is, the lower color on the spectrum he is, and vice versa. I know that nekomimi ears uses the relaxation concept in a different way, but can it be done with an arduino, and could it control a fiber-optics system?

I'm guessing a system of color changing LEDs would be the best way to control the lights, if this is possible. Also, I don't want it to remain white when there's no lights on, so would a black background on the fiber optics work?

It seems a little overcomplicated to me, though. I have one complicated-enough fursona, and a second one that I don't even know how I'd configure makes things much harder.

By the way, this is what AC looks like:

Seems like quite the interesting idea, I'm not sure about an arduino but as for other sensors I've been curious about modifying the available bio-feedback toys out there, including nekomimi and Force Trainer.

As for the Black fiber optic color, fiber optic materials work on the principle of Total Internal Reflection. So they could be painted black so long as the coloring doesn't break the internal reflection properties, i.e. does not sink in to the fiber optic strand internally. (though the best type of paint or dye is beyond me), and the tips could be the only emission point of light. The strands can also be sleeved though that can be very time consuming and have a higher cost.
But I guess I should clarify, do you want color only at the tips or throughout each fiber strand? Some fiber optics have leakage that lets light out, which you might be able to color through if the black is translucent, but that may come out more of a gray than a black background.

I'd want it throughout the entire fiber strand, but I want the normally colored areas to be black when none of the fiber-optics are lit (this way I can control light intensity, and the transition from AC's red form to black form).

As far as a bio-feedback sensor, I've seen arduino being used to control light intensity in an "IRL Life-Bar" video game hack video. I'm just curious if that can work in tandem with a bio-feedback sensor. I'm assuming it can, as long as the bio-feedback sensor can be manipulated.

I mean, for now, next summer, I'm probably going to just use regular neon-green fur, maybe with some LEDs controlled by a simple light pattern from a 555 or an Arduino (If I can get the dang program to work) for the fur, as all my other fursonas are equally complicated (hey, I like to be original). But once I get to college and all, and have a thousand or two, I want to make my fursonas into fursuits. And I really want to stay true to AC's color changing ability.

fiber optic is transparent, so you could just weave it over a black furniture
