Hey folks, ive recently got hold of
this giant tube, but i have no information on it (got it free anyway)

anyone know anything about it?

the numbers 3037 are written on it and 'Made In England' on the heatsink, pics:

VZ8BBNcs
ZIMOG7js

The terminal is 2cm wide, the whole thing is about 17cm wide

Also, got contact with a guy who has a friend that fixes electron microscopes and such, i MAY or may not
be able to get hold of 12x 20Kv @ 200uf capacitors (450KJ nearly 1/2 MJ!) but that wont be for a while i think...

any information would be appreciated! thanks!

Good luck finding a filament transformer for this, filament current is in the hundreds of Amps and somewhere between 3 and 12 Volts. And considering you got it for free, its most kilely broken, ie spent filament and/or up to air.

Looks like some sort of bigass tetrode similar to the 4CX15000. The two rings midway up the body are probably the control grid and screen grid connections, and the concentric circles in the base are the filament connections.

i think its a dud as i measured all resistances and got no shorts for a filiment.....

what do you guys think of the capacitors i may get with some luck?

It's a UHF power valve designed for use with a coaxial resonator that would have plugged into the concentric tubes that form the base.

I'd guess it was designed for operation across about 400 - 800 MHz, probably in pulse mode, and certainly with forced air cooling.

A rare and lucky opportunity, probably.

Those caps will each weigh more than you do, so find out more before planning for transportation and storage.
The things you can use them for depend on construction details and history. Where have they been? Can they hold a charge? Are their electrical parameters still close to their nameplate values? Are they full of PCB's?

People on 4hv regularly discuss the abuse of electronic components, but not ones so hard to get.
Do you want to shrink your first coin and then find your capacitor permanently weakened?
Are they actually designed for high current pulse discharge, and if so -- how high?
Are the plates made of foil, or metalization on plastic film?

At the risk of looking a gift horse in the mouth, I'd want to know
* package and HV terminal configuration
* What inductance, if any, is stamped on nameplate
* Make, model, oil type, dielectric and plate type

Good luck!
It goes without saying that an electric shock from one capacitor, at 1% of its rated energy, could kill you.

Ofcourse Klugesmith,

I dont overly care if it has PCBs in them, as its more of a rumor when it comes to their toxicity , even then i wouldnt open them up. i believe, from what they guy told me, that they are 'pulse rated' caps.

I do indeed intend to look fully before getting them, due to the likely huge cost of transportation.
