Hi All !

Iam triyng to get information regardig the Epstein test in order to trace the B X H curves from a electrical steel. Also interested to trace the curve for exitation VA X B of E tranformer core. Calculation procedures.

Please, any information is very wellcome

Here some info :

The Si electrical steel is cutted in 30 x 300 mm plates and assembled in the coils as a transformer core.

Primary coil = 700 turns, secondary 700 turns also
The plates over lap each other at the 4 corners such way that the magnetic mean circuit lenght is 94cm, and the core cross section is 15 x 30mm = 0.00045m2.

The ac voltage is applyed step by step in the primary coil. At same time the primary current and voltage at the SECONDARY is recorded.
From the secondary voltage the induction in the core is calculated as Bmax = Erms/(4.44xNxFxA)
N is the number of turns, 700
F = line frequency , may be 60Hz
A = core cross section, 0.00045m2
B= induction, tesla


From the primary coil current the amper turn per meter in the core is calculated.
H= Irms x700/0.94
The Hpeak is calculed as 1.41xIrmsx700/0.94
Then the BxH curve is traced folowing the values of Bmax and amper turn/m

Using a spreadsheet , the Bmax X H is ploted


Exitation apparent power VA/kg:
The Si steel specfic gravity ia about 7.7, so the weight of magnetic circuit may be calculated and the VA/kg calculated as secondary voltage x primary current / weight and ploted.
