I have an HP LaserJet 6P printer that I'm trying to use for toner transfer PCB making. It has parallel, serial, and Localtalk ports. I have it connected to my PC running 64-bit Windows 7 through a parallel-to-USB cable Win 7 finds the driver automatically and I am able to print easily.
However I want to adjust the toner density setting to the maximum to achieve better toner transfer. The modern day driver for this printer doesn't appear to have the an option to do so in an preference/settings panes, but I know the printer does, and its default is set to 3 on a 1-5 scale (according to a print test page). The only solutions I've found involve using PJL commands in a DOS editor This doesn't seem possible in Win 7 64-bit.
I've looked through the driver files under C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository and located the HP LaserJet 6P one, but when opened in Notepad, there is no mention of any default density settings.
Any suggestions to getting this changed? Or suggested places to search for answers? I'm not familiar with print drivers so I'm stuck at the moment.

Supposidly this file contains the escape codes, from a hp forum.
I'm not sure how to do that in Putty - it doesn't seem straightforward with the USB adapter in place. That file does include the correct code. I found the same thing on the original driver CD that came with the printer, which contains the drivers that are too old to be installed.

just out of curiosity, on a related note, has anyone been able to get the "Brother printers" to work? with or without acetone? i apparently have had my HP printer totally crap out, it just prints black pages...
