A side note, you can get some very nice dust toroiden from broken flat screen TVs.
I saved ten (!) from a single 32" heading for the WEEE bin.

Also handy, save the wire from an old digital clock for the primaries.
Obtain a small DC motor and wind yourself some Litz wire, this increases efficiency many percent.

I tried this so many times, different transistors, coils, voltage, everything, and never got it worked. Then i bought 10W 12V CFL for 0.5$ and boom, JT can go to hell :D

Neat! I didn't realise 12V CFLs were available. Would make a great cheap portable work light.

Re. not working. Did you check that your 2N3055's actually worked?
Also its really easy to mess up the transformer phasing, done this before.

I've had some success building a test jig for transistors, if they work in this then they should be fine for a JT, it has to do with the gain at high frequency.
To make a sub optimal transistor work, try using more turns on the feedback winding and also add a series resistor; sometimes this will drop the transistor out of hard saturation and allow the circuit to start up.
