There are types of transformers, like pole transformers, that are intended to drop voltages from distribution levels, 2200, 6600, 13800, to 120/240 etc. for lighting and other loads.
They are dry, and are mounted in cabinets, that also house secondary circuit breakers and the primary switch. The KVA rating depends on how close the loads are to the panel cabinet. The idea is, inside a factory, or a high rise building, the power risers are high voltage to save weight.
If you know what you are looking for, in a scrap yard dealing with old electrical apparatus, you might be able to buy one for the scrap copper value. Bear in mind, varnished transformer wire is a real chore to recover for a scrap dealer, and with new environmental laws springing up concerning organics, they might cut you a deal.
They are heavy, and because dry, easily damaged.
Most are three phase. Beware of entering an abandoned site, thinking that everything is dead.
