stunning, is it a standard iron core? I don't think it is supposed to do that! What does the driver look like?

I have a transformer form an X-Ray power supply. It also has an iron core (with very thin metal sheets!!!) but it is not meant for 50Hz operation. It was driven buy 2 Thyristors... Did not understand the driver ^^
I tried to run it on 50Hz but absolutely nothing happend - the primary of the transformer is just a short circuit on 50Hz. It worked fine with a IGBT halfbridge on a few kHz.

zilipoper: Very cool arcs! amazed Are you sure your transformer is build for 50Hz? Did you try running it on 50Hz?

Can you please tell me where you got all the supplies to make that, like where can I order that stuff online? The core, the wire, the case and so on.

I really should get one of those transformers. If I understood you correctly it is a hv transformer for a laser tube?
