I am going to be doing lots of indoor displays where I will have limited access to an RF ground.
I may be inside the main hall with other exhibitors. If this is the case, then I will be sharing a power supply and building grounding network with many sensitive, homebuilt, and potentially incorrectly/inadequately wired devices (including many 3d printers, where one interruption could ruin hours of printing).
Connecting to house ground, I was still drawing small sparks off of grounded equipment with a screwdriver while the coil was running, this has me worried.
I have a large (8' X 12') folding metal fence that I can lay down to couple the secondary to the floor, but am not sure how this will work on different surfaces.

Well...I would just share the building grounding. Just make sure you're not liable if something happens to someone else's device. It's certainly not your fault/responsibility if something happens to a device that was poorly or improperly made. And if other people have any sense, they will take precautions to ensure that their equipment doesn't get destroyed.
Have you tried using the metal fence yet to test if it works fine? If so, I wonder if there's some sort of rubber material tarp you could lay under under the fence. It probably isn't even necessary, the only material surface I would worry about is wood or metal. And how often do you run a Tesla coil on a metal floor?
