How to power up this He Ne laser?

I got this laser tube,but when I google the part number I didn't find any datasheet.How can I know it's voltage and current rating?

You will probably need a 75K ballast resistor, and be sure to get the polarity correct. The current output of the supply is a little high for a 1mW tube but it might well work anyway.

Uniphase are now "JDSU".

Looks like it would be worth a try. You can always measure the output current and fiddle with the transformer turns ratio to adjust it.

The side that connects to the large electrode is the cathode. If you get it the wrong way round the tube will typically work fine but it will die young.

I powered it up with another 6.5ma laser power supply with 100K resistor. My tube gets hot after several minutes. Is this normal?

a hot tube is normal, a hyper hot tube is not (it should not burn your hand to the point you cannot even touch it)

I have a stabilized melles griot hene which gets pretty hot (at least 70°C) and outputs around 1mW

If the supply is designed for a higher voltage tube it may be pushing a much higher current. I've used a disposable coil meter to measure actual current before, that went quite well and it turned out to be important as the supply was pushing 15ma into a tube rated for 5. Current between tubes seems to vary a lot less than voltage drop, which I assume depends on the lasing length. Your 1mw tube may need less than 1kv.

How can I know the current rating without a datasheet? My tube is about 14.5 cm long?
