Hi guys, I've been doing some interning around, and one thing I've come across is that my kenwood analog 20Mhz and my old HPS40 can't give me any decent measurements into the Mhz range for the digital signals that I've needed to look at. I'm going to be buying a 200Mhz DSO/MSO scope, and I was wondering what you though about having a 500Mhz logic analyser add-on.
Is it worth the extra 200 usd that the scopes I've been looking at demand? I've seen good reviews about the DSO section of the scope I've been looking at. The MSO isn't something I've found any reviews for, and It appears that it doesn’t support signal decoding, but that's something that I don't particularly need; I have a saleae 8 that can do most of what I need at lower speeds.

Only you can decide the value of the logic analyzer, it depends on what you expect to be using it for.
500 MHz is suitable for micro-controllers etc but wouldn't be much use for GHz microprocessors, and for 'serious' stuff you probably need more channels than s simple 'scope add-on.
We repair loads of digital stuff every working day and no one has complained that we don't have a logic analyzer, so I guess design and production are the main uses.
I suspect (though you should check) that the second hand value of the additional feature of the logic analyzer will be negligible.
P.S. does the extra cost include probes etc. for the analyzer? if not count that cost in as well. also, the cost of new PC add-on logic analyzers with all sorts of software decoding is dropping fast, check eBay.
So I wouldn'y pay the extra, but for you it could be the most useful bit of kit ever ! ... depends on your requirements.
