Wastrel: I do not exactly understand what you mean with the 2500µF of smoothing...?
2 GDTs because: the first GDT driver chip is only capable of 18V supply voltage. If i use a 1/1 GDT to Drive the gates with 18V there is to less current to get a nice waveform on the gates. The second GDT is driven by mosfets which are capable of handle 60V 20A. The supply of the half bridge is 70V so every mosfet sees 35V. With the higher voltage i can drive a 2/1 GDT which can provide much more current -> nice waveform on the gate wink

Two banks of 5000uF in series (with the other side of the primary connected to the middle) = 2500uF.

Kudos for building something with so much power that doesn't just melt.

do you have a gap in the core ends? I tried this experiment before with the ferrite cores but the transformer had some type of weird oscillation but with a week output. I still think that a poly 1uf cap could create a primary tank resonance and reduce the load on your half bridge.

I think that Wastrel is talking about creating a center tap with the capacitors witch seems like what you have done.

Yes i have a gap. A piece of plastik, about 1mm thick.
I see. Yes i have a center tapped capacitor - it is a half bridge.
