Hey ,

Wanted to post my progress on my 811a VTTC ,

Just got around to making a interrupter that is synced to the 50 hz mains :)

50 Hz @ 9 Volts is rectified to 100 Hz , then a transistor pair is used to produce a 100 Hz square wave that is then fed into a 4017 , the output from the 4017 is 10% duty cycle at 10 hz this is used to drive a 600 volt triac in the cathode of the 811a .

Primary - 32 turns
Tank - 750 pF ( 2 1.5nF caps in series )
Secondary - 2" x 2.5"
Feedback - 12 Turns
Feedback resistor - 25W lamp
Supply - level shifted Mot , 4uF of capacitor on shifter .

The output I got was 9" Arcs from the secondary at 10 hz rep rate .

Videos - Link2 Link2

I have made a new secondary that is 2.5" x 5.5" with around 4 ish " of windings .

Tank Cap is 1.5 nF , Primary 3" with 30 turns , 14 Feedback , rest remains the same values . Running at 10 Hz rep I get 10" arcs , but I think I could get abit more from it but im at the limits of the 811a now as with the new secondary it getting very red so I plan to tune more then move to a 572B tube instead .

Im not sure if I should mess with the feedback setup as im getting good output but think I could get more hopefully

Hi TwirlyWhirly555 nice picturs, how many turns do you think you have on your secondary and what do think the resonant frequency is?

EasternVoltageResearch - thanks :) , Was happy to get the output I did from a small secondary .

teravolt - Thanks :) , I don't have any idea on the number of turns , but resonance of the secondary is around 550 KHz I believe .

2.5" by 5" secondary with GU81M , Outputs 12" ish @ 10 Hz mains synced interrupted

That's a 100 W tungsten lamp that's been used as a grid leak resistor , in the 3rd picture in the 1st post you can see the 811a tube laying on its side in the bottom left hand corner just in front of the MOT .
