Making a Vacuum Furnace

Well, I have a rotary vacuum feedthrough I picked up for £50 on Ebay for this very purpose.

How would one go about tackling the maths, etc. supposing you wanted to melt, say, 10kG of aluminium at a time, with a coil, presumably of copper tubing, maybe 10 inches in diameter (the coil, not the tubing) and ten inches tall? What diameter copper tubing would be optimum? What frequency? What capacitance, etc. for use at mains frequencies, for example?

What are you asking exactly? If you're referring to induction heating what do you mean by "use at mains frequencies"?

Well, as F=1/2*Pi*SqRt(LC) (I think that's written down properly), How would one calculate the inductance of the coil plus the melt?

I imagine you'd need a considerable amount of 'melt' before you could consider using mains frequencies, but I was wondering what the formula is for calculating the inductance of coil plus 'melt'. It will presumably not be the same for all alloys, etc?

Then there are the calculations relating to skin effect, but I can find those on wikipedia.
