Anyone here use Bitcoin, or mine it? Pool choice? cards used?

I started mining last week since I had an extra machine lying around, and with all the hoopla of the spike in price I decided to look into it again. Currently only making around 0.04-0.05 BTC per day in Slush's pool (primarily just playing with it right now), but it more than pays for the electricity.

I'm currently running an ATI 5850 full time (pays the electricity for my computers), and occasionally I add in my Nvidia GTS 450 if my other desktop is running anyways. I got the card second hand for mining, but even if bitcoin went belly up I could still use it for Crypto stuff more efficiently than my current cards, so I figured why not.

my FA and DA are both "dajjhman," but I primarily focus on my DA and hardly use FA (only thing I even have favorited there is a commission I did).

And as for what bitcoin is, wiki

I would not touch BitCoin, not even with a stolen arm. In the same way normal people should not invest in Forex and compete against computers.

Interesting reading or atleast fuel for thoughts. Link2

I like the signature of ElectricMucus in the forum Mads linked to above:

"Bitcoin is like a variation of Schrödinger's Cat. Everything about it is both scam and fully legit at the same time until you open the box."

Haha, I like that analogy!

Considering it lost 25% of its value in ONE DAY after a panic selling frenzy, you'd be better off investing in the Euro.

Well I'm not treating bitcoin as an investment, but rather an alternative to accepting PayPal, and putting some extra computers to work. Even with the drop in price the computers are still making a profit after electricity.

Furthermore, the pop in the bubble, or the fact it was a bubble to begin with, does not mean bitcoin is bad.
Think about big bubbles of the past such as the dot com bubble.
Yes, pets.com is long gone but look at Amazon. Took them a while to get where they are after the bubble burst, but that's the point of a bubble. It gets all hype and inflates and bursts, but people know about it and those dedicated to it can work long term instead of these manic phases of buying.

And even after the selling frenzy of the other day, it is still far ahead of where it started years ago.

I think it's an interesting experiment, and since I have the computers to spare I might as well play with it. Am I going to buy bitcoins right now? heck no. But mining them? As long as I don't pay more in electricity.

You may find, after the bubble bursts, that the coins you've mined are worth less than the electricity you've paid for!

I've already exchanged more than enough to cover electricity for since I started and the next week.
