I recently bought a used two-stage Oil-Sealed Rotary Vacuum Pump but I can't find any manual or detailed specification on it. Does anyone have experience with this brand/model of vacuum pump or the manual? I tried searching online but can only find a few specifications on sites that are selling the pump.
The vacuum pump is called "ULVAC SINKUKIKO G -10 D TWO-STAGE OIL ROTARY VACUUM PUMP"
(The most important thing I'm trying to figure out is what oil this pump uses so that I don't end up ruining the pump by using the wrong oil)
Also is there any way of measuring the vacuum of around 1.0 torr to 0.01 torr without investing in an expensive vacuum gauge?
Last question, does adding a scroll pump from an air conditioning unit on the exhaust of the rotary vane increase the amount of vacuum or increase the speed of how fast the rotary pump pulls it down to it's ultimate pumping pressure?

I wouldn't worry too much about getting info on the oil originally used, just get some standard rotary vane pump oil from Duniway or one of the other big vacuum vendors.
When it comes to pressure measurement, read this . Most people recommend pirani and thermocouple gauges, but I don't really agree. Baratrons can be found so cheaply on eBay if you look a bit around that I wouldn't bother with anything else, as they are so much more accurate than the alternatives. They usually require regulated +-15V power in and give out 0-10V, scaled linearly with pressure. They come in different full-scale ranges, and for your purposes, I think a 1 torr or 10 torr one would be good. You probably don't need to pay more than 30 dollars if you have some patience, maybe much less if you have some luck too.
I don't know whether a scroll pump in series would increase throughput, but personally I wouldn't bother. If you need higher pumping speed then I think the best solution is to get a rotary vane pump with higher throughput on eBay, they can often be had for good prices. Anyways, see if the pumping speed is a problem before bothering with this, and make sure that you use wide tubing between your pump and your chamber. No pump will be fast if it's connected to your experiment with a long thin hose.
