Does this mean you won't be sending me a Valentine's card next year?

Vlad, it's not just the OP that reads the replies posted here, at any one time there are dozens of people reading posts here.

While you are not an idiot, there are plenty of uninformed kids out there who read the threads here, who might think 'That looks simple enough, I'll try that myself'.

The 'regulars' here do quote the same, or appropriate safety advice again and again, even though it seems obvious to most members here.

No-one here wants to be sending flowers to grieving parents, etc.

Also, the authorities, particularly in the UK, where a few of the people who've replied in this thread are based, have been threatening people with prosecution for posting advice and 'how to's' regarding X-rays on the internet.

No-one here has yet been prepared to go to court to test how legal these threats are (the relevant laws aren't supposed to apply to hobbyists).

You can't blame these people for being a bit wary of Newbies here, who make the kind of basic mistake that you did, considering the threats that some have recieved recently from the authorities. (some have stopped posting altogether).

Ok, Ash, points taken and understood, but that's going to seriously limit topics of discussion here. I mean, there are x-ray, high voltage, chemistry, etc etc threads here all of which could potentially contain harmful subjects. I guess either say something appropriate for all ages or nothing at all. It's a shame really.

At the moment it's only the X-ray stuff that people have been told to take off their websites. Personally, I'd be up for challenging it in court, but I don't do experiments with X-rays, although I do have a vested interest as I'm building an electrostatic linac (which 'could' produce radiation wink

I'm just saying don't take the safety advice too personally, as lots of people read these forums, and people here don't yet know who you are.
