Hello All,
It's been some time since I built a DRSSTC and wondering what the most up to date thinking is on design?
I am planning on a spiral primary, 225nF tank cap and wondering what peoples thoughts are regarding high or low impedance primary coil? This will be a small coil 3-4" secondary
I will be using a steve ward driver (2005 model) as I have it almost completed on shelf.
Or do the more modern drivers have some better protection and features?

Hi Colin, long time no hear.
i believe the current drivers are using phase lead ones as with Finn Hammer and Steve Wards UD 2 series. especially if you are going to use slow IGBT's otherwise, i have built three small coils using that 2005 driver with 40n50's and no problems. my last driver was Steve Wards universal driver (with no phase lead) and its still working ok.

Hi Mel, yeah been busy making babies instead of coils :D Glad to see you still at it! Well I plan on using fast igbt s if I can. What we class as fast in relation to frequency of system? The Igbt I have been looking at have around 680us total on and off time so running at 40khz would class this as fast enough I think??
