IGBT Switching Losses

Hello guys! I want to understand more the switching losses of a IGBT. The turn on losses happens when the IGBT turns on because the energy in the self capacitance is shorted across the IGBT, right? But I really don't understand what occurs on the turn off losses. Thanks!

The C-E voltage rises, and then the collector current falls after Vce hits zero. The period of time during which Vce is nonzero and Ic is at full current is when you get your losses (P=Vce*Ic)

when the igbt turn off the Vce rises, ok. But hits zero?????

What Dr ISOTOP is talking about is the brief time that the IGBT is operating in it's linear region (Vce > VceSAT). This happens at turn on as well, along with the losses from the parasitic C shorting into the switch.

The power loss is dependent on Vce and Ice (both are changing with time). The best way to estimate your losses in a hard switched or resonant switched topology is with a SPICE model of your IGBT and it's parasitics.

You can also try the hard way and calculate it via integration.
