Hey guys,
im thinking of building a small DRSSTC or SSTC, it will be my first one and now i have the money to carry it though.

i have these igbts avalible:

FGH60N60SMD
FGH60N60SFD
FGH60N60UFD
FGH40N60SMDF
FGH40N60SMD

And these FETS:
G73N60E

Would any of these be useful, i have enough for a Fullbridge of each of them.

Thanks,
Thomas W

Hi!
I think all of these FETs are suitable for a small DRSSTC.
In my small coil i use 20N60 and i get 75cm sparks wink

For drsstc I would use 60n60smd because the very small swtichig losses

I have used the 40N60's in a small SSTC and they don't even get warm.

So, should i start with a small SSTC with 40N60's, what is their limit for the size of a DRSSTC assuming full-bridge?

I built a small SSTC first to understand the electronics properly - very glad that I did. It is a lot more forgiving than a DRSSTC IMO.Still blew up couple of 40N60's in the process. With a SSTC you can still experiment with coil configuration or even audio modulation.

I just built 3 new sstc's using the new IRFP260M, two twin minis and one 20" tall coil. So for the 40N60 you could go mini size like a 10" winding or larger and you should still get good results. If your planning on full bridge configuration then I would go with at least a 16" winding, preferably larger tho. But im not quite sure what you mean by "size of the sstc" so im just talking in terms of size of the secondary. By the way, the performance of the 260M's double that of the old 260N's and they are sooo much cheaper.
