Couldn't find anything in ten seconds regarding 'solid state design', I assume you mean microelectronic engineering?

Congratulations !

I suppose if you take a long course there is a good chance of it being renamed before completed !

Did it all part time. 4 years to complete classes, three years to complete thesis. Made a microfluidic sensor capable of measuring fluid temperature and flow rate simultaneously. I own a house with my wife, we have 300,000 mortgage and 120,000 in student loans, plus credit cards. On top of that I'm being furloughed so 20% paycut, and no government raise for the new degree. Current job has me making me access databases for bolts and screws. High school stuff. Tough to have to do it all on your own this day in age compared to previous generations.

Congrats! I am halfway through my masters (about 20 pages into this problem set due tomorrow...), its no small feat to finish a degree especially while working!

I would guess solid state design would be non-vacuum tube, electronics or power electronics design.

Congratulations. And good luck finding enjoyable work in the field.

You just taught me something. It stands as a reminder to respect the broad and historical interpretation of words, even when a narrow interpretation becomes popular. For example, the word "hybrid" in a car doesn't suddenly mean, exclusively, internal combustion + electric propulsion. It can still correctly apply to "crossover" configurations, styles, and construction details.

So apparently, Solid State Design includes what I used to think of as MEMS engineering.
Useful mechanical structures fabricated with methods adapted & extended from microelectronics. Can have active, embedded electronic circuits. Can use nontraditional materials, e.g. single-crystal silicon carbide as the primary solid. With a graduate credential, you da man!

Is your flowmeter based on temperature change? Pressure drop? Vortex shedding frequency?

And what's the best pun you have heard about the rhoades not taken?
