Can anyone give me proper instructions on how I should do this? Like how did I tune my primary coil, My secondary coil is this one, Link2 which apparently resonate frequency is approx 211 kHz "Resonate frequency is approx 211 kHz.
If you make a primary from 0.25 inch coppper tubing with 0.25 inch spacing and a 9.3 nf capacitor you will be in tune at about turn 9 or 10(with a 12kV 30ma NST). " I had to use wire instead because when I tried with the copper tubing, I couldn't get it winded without it getting all kinked up so I used wire. How do I use the signal generator and O-scope to tune it to the secondary?

Referring to the image at 0:33 leave the ground clips unconnected. That's how I interpreted the image and it worked for me.

The oscope at my school doesn't go to 211kHz though, do I need it too? that is the resonant frequency of my secondary coil. What exactly am I looking for? I know I am supposed to alter the primary tap. But connecting the capacitors, primary coil, oscop, and signal generator creates a huge mess of wires that I know is affecting the resonate frequency.

All those wires will not have that significant an effect on your tests. You will have to fine tune later when the coil is operational, but for now, you want to get the two coils as closely tuned as possible, so you can at least see some results when you fire it up. Unusual for a scope not to handle 211kHz - that's pretty low frequency. As you saw in the video you are looking for the spike in output voltage as you sweep across a range of frequencies with your signal generator. What sig gen are you using?

Having coated wire does make it a lot more difficult to tune as you can't simply slide a connector from one point of the coil to the other. You can try remove the insulation from the wire which will be tedious but make tuning a lot easier. Then you will have to ensure that the turns in the primary are not touching each other.

If your test equipment is not sufficient, you can always go back to basics and do some math - there are free Tesla tools out there that will allow you specify coil parameters, capacitance etc to get the right configuration. Again, may get you close enough to resonance that some fine tuning is required when it's running. I always do this first before even hooking up any electronics to tune it.

How do you know it is effecting the frequency? It should not unless you place all the equipment right next to the primary. You could also use javatc or deepfriedneon calculator to make a table of inductances with their respective LC frequencies at different tap points. Then fine tune the primary by trial and error of different tap points that are close to your calculated resonant frequency.

I think I may just try and rewind the primary with 1/4inch copper tubing, 1/4 inch spacing, any tips on how to wind it and with what supports? I tried it before and it went horribly wrong, the tubing got all kinked up.
