hate to say it, but maybe the "salt is evil" whole food advocates were right all along.
Processed food could well be responsible for a lot of problems, including diabetes.
Hopefully the Govt will rein in "Big Food" and force them on penalty of blacklisting to
not only accurately report the level of sodium in their products which is often cunningly
disguised as sodium benzoate and other flavour enhancing compounds, to list them correctly.

If you ask me, any company that intentionally and maliciously misleads consumers should
be treated as the terrorists they are, and if needed the directors of said companies prosecuted
accordingly as a deterrent to others.

Nb: to mods:- I think I have been very restrained, please be nice and not lock this thread kthx.

-A
memo to self:- pats on back for NOT falling for the breakfast scam.. cereals can be higher in salt than
a beefburger with fries.

I gave up salt AND processed food 30 years ago. This information has been in the public domain for decades.

These days I eat as many anti-oxidants as possible, due to their effectiveness at reducing the risk of cancer etc. Call me wacko if you want.

serious? I absolutely love chips (or crisps usa) , salt is fantastic but yes it raises the heart rate and all sorts, its a shame = sugar and salt are the best.

Ive tried gluten free bread and cake and ended up chucking it to the birds I only wish I couldnt brought it up but never mastered that tech with out alcohol.

the tins these days have paint on the inside to protect the tin for shelf life ...never mind the people who buy and eat the contents.

Moderation in all things, and all things in moderation. A salty snack here and there isn't going to kill anyone, but one need look only as far as a nutrition label to see that most processed foods are a "sometimes food" at best. Have a treat once in a while, if it will make you happy. But if nearly everything that goes into your mouth is sweet, salty, fatty, or some combination of the three, you're probably not going to be happy with your overall health.

That said, "early studies" are usually attempts to generate funding, and are generally not worth paying attention to when splashed across the news. If they were, I'd be driving my cold-fusion powered self-driving flying car to next week's warp drive test, while drinking a tomato-grape-acai-oregano oil life-extension weight-loss anti-cancer probiotic antibacterial smoothie.

I literally consume 10x the RDA. I'm an Indian with a burning passion for spicy food, no pun intended. I need mah salt! I don't eat much processed food anyways. Lot of what I eat is homemade, but still. Too much NaCl but I'd rather cut off my arm than reduce my salt intake too much.

If we all ate our fair share of salt the sea would be fresh enough to drink, think about , seriously.
