So imagine 4 running tesla coils. a sgtc a sstc a drsstc and a vttc and now. i place a rod of iron in the tube of the tesla coil. the tube which the wire is wound around with out any arcs hitting it.. what will happen. what if i place a ferrite rod? what about copper? aluminum ? a super conductor? :P i guess that the sparks would increase because the iron or whatever inside will help with induction please post what you think. it is a really interesting experiment

I imagine the sparks will get smaller, because the ferrite rod or whatever will heat up, drawing energy out of the system.
This is why air cored transformers are used for high frequencies. While the coupling is 'looser', if driven at resonance, the energy transferred is greater.
Putting anything inside will lower the resonant frequency.
You will basically have an induction heater, but it will alter the resonant frequency, so efficiency will suffer. (It won't suffer so much if the primary is driven via feedback from the secondary)

So basically the tesla coil if any metal is placed inside it will act like a fun induction heater? and decrease the performance. I 'd be really happy if some one of you guys makes a video about this crazy idea :).

I once used a biscuit tin lid full of water as a dummy load when developing a new type of SSTC. This allowed me to test the primary circuit by itself without worrying about getting hit in the head by 10 foot sparks.
Putting ferrite rods in a Tesla coil would increase the coupling, which might help with the spark output if the coupling was too low before, and you retuned the coil to take the extra inductance into account. However, ferrite is slightly conductive, so stuffing the secondary coil full of ferrite rods would be asking for trouble with flashovers.

Well. i do not fully understand tesla coils tho. But that thing made the water boil o.o that means the primary coil can do induction heating right? :P that means i can use a induction heater that has a high freuqency to drive a tesla coil? and putting a piece of metal inside would heat the metal and thus decrease the power flowing inside the tesla coil secondary. That means i can make a zvs driver driven tesla coil. with no flybacks?

Yes, in fact the ZVS circuit was originally developed to drive a Tesla coil, not a flyback. Google the "Skori coil", it's a SSTC driven by a ZVS-like circuit running off 24V.

Yes. IH and TC driving circuits are fundamentally similar. Think of it like this: a TC secondary is many turns, so you get get voltage step up (more arcing), whereas in an induction heater, the hunk of metal is one turn, so voltage step down/current step up (more heating).

I think I remember someone linking some original documentation on the ZVS and it said it was designed for the very purpose of driving a Tesla Coil.
EDIT: Steve beat me... and by 10 minutes, boy do I take a while proofreading ;)

FOR REALLLLLL LOLOLOLOL. That rocks. flybacks. tesla coils. ignition coils. any ferrite cored transformer i found gave some output. AMAZING. :). Anyways. those tesla coils give pulses. But no arcs. Also will my normal zvs circuit. have the ability of being used on a tesla coil. In fact i have a small tesla coil. :3 the circuit is from plasmanas instructable.

That is my schematic. But mine is cleaned out a bit :P and i used two schematics to build.
and this
Tho i used this to know what to connect to the gate , source and the drain. Cause i suck at reading mosfet schematics. what if i bring my tesla coil my small one hehe. And run that on 33 volts with 5 + 5 turns on my mini tesla coil with my 1 uf cap You can see the thread my zvs is working and check the few last posts to see the specs of the zvs. Will that drive a tesla coil. I also i think someone ran a tesla coil with zvs and got fire like arcs.. :)
