Audio Interrupter Idea

I was wondering if this circuit would work well as a tesla coil interrupter. I borrowed pretty much the whole thing from Experimentonomens class D amplifier -here-

I built it on the breadboard and it's running at around 67kHz and 56% duty cycle with no audio input. The output of this would be fed into the interrupter input on the tesla coil driver board. (Steve Wards DRSSTC .5) My main concern is the frequency is rather high, but the coil itself would be running at around 700-800kHz so I don't know. Do you guys think it would work?

The short answer is no. DRSSTCs need to have a limited burst length in order to limit the primary current. This circuit doesn't do that at all. With that I would say you should do some more research and learn how a DR works before trying to modulate it with audio.

However this would possibly work for an SSTC.

No. Lower duty cycle to around 5% or so. And for a DRSSTC you may want to have a PW limit. Other then that, like Goodchild said, this might work with a sstc. Try it on something like steve's micro or mini. It would be a good way to test it first, and from there you can make changes to suit it for DRSSTC

I see I failed to mention this is for a SSTC, using secondary feedback with no primary capacitor. Sorry about that.. I will go ahead and try it out and see how it does.

My bad, I thought you meant you were trying to audio modulate this DRSSTC system. smile Let us know how it turns out!

This would be perfect for driving an audio modulated SSTC. You can use the PWM output waveofrm to drive the gates of the half-bridge or full-bridge of the SSTC and produced true audio output (not the buzzing like a DRSSTC).

Most use a dedicated PWM controller IC to do the modulation for SSTCs, but this discrete method will work great too.
