Adjusting a PI metal detector?

I found this metal detector schematic on the Internet and build it.But after I finished it I don't know how to make it work because I cannot read the text.

now it only makes an annoying sound when I power it up.When I set P1 to a certain point,the sound changes slightly when I put a screwdriver or pliers near the coil(less than 1 cm).

My coil has 30 turns and 14cm diameter.

I substitute BF245 with 2N3819.I know their pin out are different.I think I wire it properly.
