Anyone else remember that day? The day the physics teacher brought out the Van de Graaffs when learning about electrostatics? He also had a high frequency electrostatic generator thing, and he arced to various students and students holding tube lights. It was fun :D

I naturally have VDG hair so it didn't make much of a difference to my hair:

Edit:
Pic is too big to put here directly so here's a link to it:

It made a hell of a difference to my hair that day.....it all stood on end, and it was quite long back in the '70's.....I was amazed that I didn't feel a thing. It made the other kids laugh though..... I had some pretty cool physics teachers back then.

Actually that reminds me of the day we made electric motors....mine was the first that worked 'properly' in the history of the school.....

Good thing no one had a phone, they don't like static one bit.

Picture was actually taken by the teacher's phone.

My last physics instructor was pretty evil. He told us a story about a time he went to an elementary school to show all the kids a bunch of cool stuff, including a VDG. He had all the kids line up and hold hands. While the first kid in line touched the VDG, the last kid in line would touch the metal frame of a nearby light switch.. All the kids got shocked at once and screamed their heads off. muhahah mad
