I turned a dc flyback into a ac one. I knew that cause it wont charge a capacitor.. Lights a bulb by sparks (plasma globe) and i kept drawing arcs with my finger. Tons of corona. and it even arced to the ground of my room. Not the ground wire.. The ground i stand on
I did this by leaving the flyback in oil for a looong loong period. :) atlast :D. Also btw. am building a mini tesla coil for the cute little ac flyback. Can't wait to get the mosfets. :D..
It is a modern large flyback. Always gave dc. :D Can you give a explanation
In my experience the diode in modern DC flybacks is the first thing to go, usually. Not much explanation to do, they just don't have the proper voltage/current rating.

Will this ac flyback last?. I am having tons and tons of fun with it. I tried finding a black and white tv. and tried winding my own. with very poor results. Now i got what i want on a plate of silver. How long will it last. Are you guys interested in a video? btw mini tesla coil is DOne
It depends on the actual model and how well it was constructed, but the internal isolation (the next thing that can go and it will be fatal) should fare much better then the diode.
If you want/need DC you can always use a external rectifier with proper rated diodes or huge strings of relatively inexpensive UF4007 diodes (the diodes need to be fast, smps rated).
