Indeed. What I am discussing is ways to convert antimatter (which exists) into exotic matter which is essentially a form of matter which induces a negative spacetime curvature. It reacts like antimatter with normal matter but it is unlikely to encounter it due to the opposite gravitational potential.
When discussing FTL drives I keep wondering about how that reconciles with special relativity. Once you have an FTL drive, you can construct a time machine with it, which allows travel backwards in time. That leads to all kinds of puzzles, e.g. the grandfather paradoxon. How can this work?

Not always. The current consensus is that a closed timelike curve is actually a bridge to a parallel Universe where the actions caused already happened by chance. This neatly sidesteps the grandfather paradox, Prof. Hawking actually supports the multiverse theory...
Not being too knowledgeable on this topic I googled around but couldn't find anything explaining your statement. Maybe you can supply a link. My own thought to this is, that a transfer to a parallel universe with a different kind of history is a scary prospect to a would be FTL traveller.

Also, one posited explanation for the nature of antimatter is that it is in fact normal matter with a reversed arrow of time, so annihilation is actually an itty bitty paradox.
