Everyone seems to use a logic delay circuit to get these DRSSTC drivers to start up. It seems to me like a better way to do this is to generate a pulse on every rising edge of the interrupter and use it to set the flipflop.

I have included the idea that I came up with and the traditional design that Steve Ward created that everyone seem to use.

Any problems with the idea I came up with?

i personally never had problem with tc startup, i use steve's interrupter which i cannot say why but always starts my TCs (all kind)

i don't use any startup circuit at all, only simple base feed / primary current transformator circuit with 74hc14, then modulating signal with 74hc132 gate and interrupter.

the circuit on the bottom enshures that he the mosfets turn off at the zero cross at the end of the interupter pulse.

Mine will too, right? When the interrupter goes low, D on the flip flop will go low and the next time CLK goes high Q will go low. Isn't this the behavior we want?

it looks good in my head but you may need to bread board it and scope it out in case it needs tweaking. There is probably more than one way to do it. I like yours because it is simpler.
