I was at my local parts store today and they had a bunch of bins full of what looks like motor inverter power parts, big SCRs, bipolars, diodes and some IGBTs all in brick form. The Semikron SKM400GB124D caught my eye as most useable looking so I asked how much, $10 later I have one. Do you guys think I could run this at 86 kHz without phase lead? Daniel mentions using them in this post

Hi, I think they will work, you can guess if they are usable at your desired conditions by guessing the peak loss (condicton + switching) from the data presented in the datasheet, and from here calculate the peak junction temperature, by using the transient thermal impedance graph in the datasheet.

Nice I looked into this a while back. The SKM300GB123D has similar specs to the CM300HA-24H commonly used by DRSSTC builders. The 124 series is newer. It's about the same speed with lower conduction losses.
