Hi everyone. I ran into a problem with the cores I am currently using. My GDT cores are 5 MHZ 19 ohm impedence (link here), and the waveforms I get on my IGBT gates have excessive drooping on the tops and bottoms. I've tried 10 turns, 15 turns, and 20 turns, nothing made a difference so I figured that the cores were not right. I came across another post here in the forum with suggested cores to be used. Here are some links to the cores I am looking at:

N30
N87
Cores from Eastern Voltage Research
These ones from EVR I'm sure are great, but how might they be compared to the epcos?
Fair-rite 77 material, very similar to the cores on EVR

The N87's are a little big and expensive, I dont need something that big but I was just looking around at some cores that might work regardless. I will be using these for GDT and most likely for primary feedback and current sense. I also have these Triad Magnetics CST but I have not yet used them. Thanks for any thoughts and suggestions.

I have been using Ferroxcube 3E25 for both tasks with great success. And at least in Finland these cores are quite cheap.

Application example:

25mm OD core, 6 turns, driving brick gate +-24V at 60kHz, perfect waveforms!

2bytes, yes that is where I reference my excessive top and bottom drooping from. Which is why I tried more turns, and when that didn't seem to make a difference I decided to check the datasheet of the cores I used (stupid me I should have done that in the first place, but I had the cores already and didn't want to buy new ones if I didn't have to) and found the Al to be extremely low and material not sufficient for TC use.

Kizmo, thanks for suggestion I will have a look at them smile

edit: I corrected and meant Al, not ui.

If you need some cores, let me know, i'll send you some free samples. I have a whole variety of them now including some 2.4" diameter ferrite cores which are great for the large IGBT bricks and large current transformers.

Just send me a PM.

Link to the different types of cores we offer now for your reference:

No charge on the shipping for 1st class - but if you want priority mail, i'll have to charge shipping on that.

Kizmo, I found those cores on newark and the specs look like they would work pretty good. However I didn't do any extensive searching but I couldn't find any in the U.S. pity because they are a good price like you said.

EVR, thanks!! pm'ed smile
