I watch it on Discovery, wish I was close enough to watch it in person! And yes the air cannons seem to rule the competition, but they aren't near as fun to watch as the big trebuchets.

The trebuchets are stylish, the air cannons sound good, but I think the most interesting class for the physicist has got to be the rotaries.
Is it legal to use a liquid-filled (what do you call the thing that holds the pumpkin? ) pumpkin-holder? The idea being that a floating pumpkin won't feel any flattening force, so the spinner is limited by its own strength rather than the strength of the pumpkin.
Unzipping the bottom of the bag to release might be interesting, as would making a water-proof zip

I like the compond catapolts but the spinners cirtianly look dangerous. maby it would be time to enter a new class like a EM gun type punkin launcer. or a combination of air and EM.
