hey guys I wanted to know if anybody has paired up a pwm controller+ extra mosfet in between the inductor and the primary windings. it would be kind cool to be able to control the voltage electronically without using a variac.

i think a better place would be before the inductor, essentially a buck converter feeding the resonant converter.

Yep, that's how CCFL inverters work.
