Hi All,

I just wanted to share my latest creation: the Mini MIDI Tesla Coil Controller. It's packages a MIDI interrupter, and several other interrupters in a package that is less than 2" x 2".

8131646230 C8979de14b

In addition to the full-featured MIDI interrupter this controller also has a fixed frequency interrupter, asynchronous rotary spark gap simulator, and a phased twin-coil interrupter (for making twin coils operate in and out of phase). The MIDI interrupter is two channel, and has two-note poly for each channel. The board accepts ST as well as bare fiber transmitters. Note that the two transmitter pairs are mirrored.

I've got a big write-up on the controller at my new website. I'm selling these for $75 (sans transmitters). There is a full price listing on my website.

Hi Phillip, congratulations on the design. It's very clean and simple, using the absolute minimum of components.

One feature that I believe some prospective customers would enjoy is an override of the DIP sw MIDI channel selector using the pot(s).

As example, push and hold the mode 1 button after turn on, and adjust pot#3 to select the MIDI channel for A, and repeat using mode 2 button/pot#3 for B.
This approach eliminates the need to open the box to change the MIDI channel, as well as supports separate MIDI channels for A and B.
A repeating flash cycle on channel led, with the respective button held down, could be used to indicate the channel assigned. Of course the fiber would have to be disconnected when doing this.

I use different MIDI channels for each coil when running two of them, and sometimes use different channel pairs for each composition being played.

Anyway, it's a thought. Regards, Jeff

PS. Taken from your webpage; how did you assemble this?... the hex of the nuts overlap cheesey

I finally got my own place with a garage ... yay! I just broke my garage in today by testing a two-channel MIDI on the controller.

RE: the hex nuts from the previous post. I oversized the holes for the transmitters so I was able to bend them apart enough to get the nuts screwed on.

By the way, this controller is still available here: Link2

Nice Phil! Hey, that midi of Dueling Banjos on the Mini sounded excellent! I sure hope people realize what a deal this controller is. Unlike some controllers in that price range (you know who you are), your Mini Controller does far more than just 1 channel and does polyphonic. BTW, the page you have the Mini on http://www.classictesla.com/pslawinski/mini.html is nicely done. It's simple and clear and even links to parts rather than just some dumb Bill of Material list. Well done! You put some time into this and obviously care about the users road to success.
