voltage doubler for drsstc, questions from a newbie

Hi everyone. I am building my first drsstc and I have a few questions about the power supply I plan on using for the bridge. I've googled around at various half wave and full wave doublers and searched in the forums here as well. I have also seen some photos of other people's setups which make use of mains input from a variac (no isolation) wired to a bridge rectifier to one or two large electrolytic capacitors in order to make a doubler. I like the idea of this since I've seen a few well built drsstc's successfully powered this way. I might be totally overlooking something but I cant seem to find any schematics online that show exactly this, so I drew up my own diagram:

the bridge rectifier I have available for B is a 1200V 35A bridge rectifier, I think I also have a 400V 25A one around somewhere but I think either would work fine..
C1 and C2 are both large 12000uF 200V CDE's, a bit big but again it's what I have available
again the power input is roughly 120-130VAC from variac. I plan on putting a fuse between the HOT and the rectifier even though I left it out of the drawing.

So my questions are:
would this work just fine? would using a bridge rectifier like this protect against reverse voltage? any pros/cons of using this kind of doubler?

Looks fine. You basically have the standard full-wave doubler circuit, using the two sets of diodes inside the rectifier in parallel.

I use that same method in my big DRSSTC and has never failed me, only using a 30A bridge with two didoes inside that brings it to almost 60A. However I have pushed that doubler way past that before. Diodes can take a lot of abuse.


I do however have a ballasting resistor at about 200 ohms that a switch into the circuit to pre-charge the bus caps before I go and directly connect mains using a contactor.
