As this relates to now declassified documents, I feel it is appropriate to post. Maybe this will prove once and for all that the US Gov experimented with vacuum tube inverter based Biefield-Brown (aka ionocraft) based disk craft controlled from the ground.
Its not so far fetched, from our own VTTC and VTIH experiments we can see that vacuum tube based drivers can certainly be made that would have worked in the 1950's although the lift capacity would have been relatively small comparable with a small blimp. Possibly a lighter than air variant which could be "brought down" on command for extended high altitude use with an onboard H2 generator, launched with a helium/hydrogen mix for safety.

Personally I think Tesla's flying machine was something along these lines, and may have been what the FBI or CIA were after when they seized his notes (or whatever the story is).

According to reliable internet sources it seems that it was to be powered by a zpe derived 42 gazillion volt purple death-ray. I'ts not secret, you can buy the plans on eBay.

Well, there seems to be considerable confusion regarding this.
Tesla's flying machine was NOT the VTOL device he patented in later years. Most of the 'so called' plans on the internet are mechanical devices powered by gyroscopes, which, again, can not be linked back to Tesla. (Almost all are on 'crank' psyudo-science or 'free energy' websites).
Tesla claimed in documented interviews that all his work regarding electricity and wireless distribution was aimed at getting his flying machine 'off the ground'.
Ion thrusters were known about long before Tesla.
I'll provide some links to substantiate this if required.
