How isolated are the outputs of a flyback. has anybody built 2 drivers for two flybacks and connected the secondary in series? I see this as an easy 100kv what do you guys think?

The positive end of the flyback is very well isolated from the primary, because that's where the HV output comes from in normal use. The negative end isn't, because it's supposed to be connected to ground.

I have seen flybacks connected in series, but the resulting Rube Goldberg device usually ends up catching fire. smile

I've done 5 parallel, and I've done 3 series in the past and never had issues with mine. With 2 in series I was able to do pulses to get it to jump longer and managed 6cm off it

If talking about AC flybacks, you can achieve +- whatever voltage without stressing the flybacks more than normal operation.

I had 4 that were identical and was able to series-parallel 4 for added current and voltage. I also phased 2 that were identical and it didn't work they each put out voltage but they wouldn't arc together. At the time I thought that they were not resonating together. I think you should make a ZVS circuit and just try it. I always thought 2 flybacks would have to be the same.
