forgive me if this has been asked before. im building a second tesla coil. on my first coil i used .25inch copper tubing for the primary winding. will 3/16 inch copper tubing work equally as well? what about using solid copper, say between 4 and 8 gauge grounding wire. will heavy guage multi strand work just as well? thank you!

I'm currently using 16mm^2 multi strand insulated wire with my mini SGTC currently under construction. Haven't had any issues with it during testing, however it was a major pain to add taps to the insulated wire, so I wouldn't recommend it

You didn't state the size / power level of your coil.
However, if your coil is low power, then 3/16" should work equally well as the 0.25". I've run my 1kW DRSSTCs using 12 AWG solid wire to test tuning before fitting with 1/4" copper tubing. The wire gets hot, but performance isn't really affected.
