for my second tesla coil i would like to build a MOT powered coil. my first question is, how do i calculate the optimal resonant capacitor if i dont know the exact voltage and current rating of the MOT? when i built my NST coil there was a label with the voltage and current ratings that i could type into TeslaMap(the software i used to calculate my parameters)

Hi, use 2300Vac, you will most likely need to limit the current on the primary side of the transformer.
PS. One MOT alone is not really enough for a TC. You might want to at least double it and use a DC resonant charging circuit to get 12kV on the caps.

to accurately calculate the optimum tank capacitor i need to know the current rating of the MOT. What is the best way to calculate this? what do i use as a load when measureing the current with clamp on ampmeter? or can i just use the short circuit current reading?
