Anything much better then FGH75T65UPD for high frequency DRSSTC?

I have a coil with around 500kHz resonance and the max I could bring it down was about 370kHz or so with the top loads I have. I used it with MOSFETs for some SSTC experiments and then lost interest, as I couldn't operate it with IGBTs for more power.

Now Steve Ward's thread ArcAttack! Tesla Gun opened my eyes to technical progress - obviously he is running his QWC with close to 400kHz and the 60A (180A pulsed) FGH60N60SMD with hard switching on one leg. That indicates these could do much more in ZCS mode. Fall time is about 50ns, wow.

Now I looked around there seems to be an even better candidate, the FGH75T65UPD, with an unbelieve 75A (225A pulsed) and 24ns fall time. And as a field stop, that should allow easy paralleling with good current sharing in addition. This seems ideal for high power operation on high frequency coils - but then I am a hobbyist, and there could be a catch 22.

2 questions:
1) This seems too good to be true - is there a hidden obstacle I am not seeing?
2) Are there similar IGBT developments from other companies you are aware?

Curious for your opinion.

Best regards

You might find the HGTG40N60A4 has similar switching speeds and is a very rugged and time-proved part.

The new wave of field-stop IGBT's is indeed quite impressive. From what I understand, a field-stop IGBT could arguably be considered a new class of power semiconductor switch.
The FGH75T65UPD has longer switching delays, and significantly more gate charge, than the 60N60SMD, so it's not a hands-down superior IGBT.

Thank you for all the answers. I now bought some at mouser, let's see.

The HGTG40N60A4 is actually twice as expensive with over 11 EUR compared to the FGH75T65UPD, at least at mouser, so it's worth giving it a try.
