Hi Guys!

This is just a quick question, for I know many of us still finding alternative parts for expensive primary capacitors...
Anyone have any idea/experience trying to alter the polypropelene capacitors from Cornell Dubilier, G.E., etc,
More like of a hand made capacitors for DRSSTC application probably 10kV, 1KAmps on the primary.

Thank you in advance!
more power to our TCs!

You can try the following. These are a popular MMC capacitor used in a lot of coils. I know lots of people that use them with success. However, since the capacitance isn't too high, they are usually limited to smaller spark gap and DRSSTC coils unless you plan to use a bazillion of them.

Panasonic ECW-H16563JV (0.056uF, 1600V)

Ebay has giant Eurofarad snubbers for dirt-cheap - the last time I bought these I paid $120 for 20. They're good to about 1KV, and will happily handle all the current you can throw at them.
The drawback is their capacitance is a bit high, so they only work for very large coils.

you can also string them up for reduced capacitance and increased voltage and current ratings. making them even more indestructible.

I have used 5x WIMA Snubber FKP 0.47uF 2000V capacitors in series, total 94nF/10kV, when I rebuilt the MMC for my DRSSTC (see my previous post http://4hv.org/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?124267.post)

I think that most MKP caps will work in a DRSSTC, check ebay, you should find some really cheap ones.

Hi, Even those for mid sized DRSSTC? there are MKP for audio applications, even those?

I would not use the audio ones, but most of the "box type" plastic MKP caps should work. Look for voltages above 1000V.

how do we rate the V/us? For what are these data??
And, how will I relate the current that will flow in it from the IGBT (e.g. 1KA) Is there a standard rule of thumb in here? Thanks
