Hi all. I recently acquired from the nice guy at the Airtel shop two Huawei 2G modems. These are HSDPA only but should still work, and are USB to boot.
My plan is to set up automatic texting on them in the event something happens to the weather stations. So if the battery starts to fail, abnormal radiation spike, etc I get a message.
Has anyone else ever done this? If so how did you make it work.
There is an application on MSDN but it runs on VBS 2010 which is expen$ive.

I believe the device presents itself to the computer as a serial port with a modem attached. You should be able to send text messages using AT commands.

Like EVR said some emails allow you to text others - I know yahoo is one of them because I use to have people contact me through email-to-phone using texting.
Or if docking a phone is fine, Android phone connected to PC using PDANet allows you to send / receive text messages on their app on your computer screen.
Its main use is to feed its internet to your PC for wireless internet without rooting your phone ( legal app found in the market ) but has an SMS agent..
