Anyone else noticed that HDDs and IGBTs do this anyway without requiring pushing of a button?
I noticed that sometimes a transistor will test fine even if it has obvious scorch marks..

Ha! They had to fake the destruction with Photoshop. The designer should come to 4hv and learn how to blow things up properly smile

It would depend on the design of the drive, but I would bet that this can be retrofitted to most drives by having a switch to connect the 12v line into the internal power lines for the flash wink

Nah, my favoured method would be a piezoelectric transformer and thin wires leading over every chip.
Upon activation pretty much every chip in the drive would be "fried" beyond recovery one at a time as the tapered wire arced to the dies.
Plus there would be the required acrid smelling magic smoke smile

It's pretty cool... but it wouldn't be as fun as putting it on a DRSSTC xD Or EMPing it with a Marx. xD I wish I had an SSD. I took my laptop everywhere... and then a hard drive error occured. I need SSD lol

SSD is overrated, it may be fast but a standard HDD is better apart from shock sensitivity.
Better to back the important data up to the cloud and when/if the drive breaks just install a replacement.

I used Ghost for a while in order to repair my machines quickly when they broke.
