How do you make adjustable primary for DRSSTC or VTTC?What can I use for primary tap?I know that for flat primary many people use a fuse holder, but how about cylindrical primary wound on a plastic tube such as DRSSTC or VTTC?Many people make their primary with insulated wire, how do they tune their coil?
And is it important to use litz wire?I know that at tesla coil frequency, skin effect plays an important role, but litz wire primary seems difficult to tap.

In a dr you still use copper pipe and a fuse holder, but it can really be designed any way so long as it doesn't impede performance. For a vttc I've seen people use litz wire with *many* fixed tap points made with connectors at intervals along the coil.

I would like to know the same thing I think most people probably use a calculator
Previously I tune my coil with oscilloscope but sometimes the result isn't good. The frequency of primary and secondary matched well when I measure them, but when I power it up, I discovered that adding or removing some capacitor make it work better.

I don't know what kind of connector can withstand the high current?

I use solid core PVC insulated wire, which is used for electrical installations. To make taps, I just remove bits of the insulation with a knife, if you are careful you can then solder taps without damaging adjacent turns. It is also possible to strip more of the insulation and bring out a loop, but you must then wind the primary with just little tension not to flatten the loops. I also made taps by bringing out large loops of the wire still in insulation and using zip ties to "tie" the loops.
