Does anyone know where to get really odd hardware stuff? I am looking for a drill chuck that has a round 3/8"(3.125mm) shaft to fit my cnc's built in chuck. Then the chuck has to take really small pcb drilling bits.

I could just buy a case of bits that has a 3/8 shaft the tapers downd to the bit size, but they're rather expensive to be wearing out. I already have plenty of pcb bits as well, but theyre meant for the collet of a dremmel.

I am definitely no expert in this field so ignore my answer if it sounds absolute cr@p.

Would it not be possible if they re more common to buy a slightly bigger one then either yourself or someone else kind enough just use a lathe or mill and trim it down a tad to fit?

As I said I don't know much in this area, I can turn something out on a lathe but that's about it. So as said apologies if it's a bad idea.

Danny.

Can't you get another collet for your CNC chuck to suit the new bits? Maybe a Dremel collet would work, or maybe someone with a hobby lathe could make you a custom collet.

I'd be worried about runout and vibration when operating a 3-jaw chuck kludged onto the end of another chuck at the high RPMs needed for PCB drilling.

What I do when I have this problem s to use the mini-chuck from the end of an old flexi-etxension thingy (I'm not sure of the correct term).

I just fit it into the standard Jacob's chuck, then fit the drill bit ito that.

You can get them for Dremmells as well, with the collet that is favoured by Dremmell, but I don't expect this solution to be as versatile as a mini-chuck.

I've used this setup quite a lot in the past with my pillar drill.

Try mcmaster-carr. They carry hundreds of different chucks for equipment.

the problem is that I only have ~40cm of z axis to work with minus my pcb jig. Soba full sized chuck will be too long. Plus I don't think I've ever seen a big drill chuck hold a #76 bit smile

Steve, I'll look again

Evr, thanks for the link, I didn't think to look there. It's where we get our robotics chassis hardware every year.

Ash, thanks but that'll be the last resort tongue not the most elegant solution, but if it's to get some pcb processed then I'll give it a shot.
