A little heavy handed to say the least.

WOW, i honestly hoped that by winning the Olympic bid to become the host nation we could show people from all over the world what a nice friendly nation we are on the whole.

While there is a lot of crap graffiti by idiots there is by a huge amount far more interesting and truly outstanding works of art on our streets by some extremely talented people. Some of which is truly iconic.

By allowing this and other forms of art to take place on the streets we are allowing a free and culturally diverse nation which I am proud to be a part of but I do feel that it is all been taken away from us to send out this fake message to visitors of our country of a government controlled ideal image of a perfect society in there image anyway.

To be honest it is in my opinion that diversity and freedom is what keeps us sane and varied also preventing civil wars and oppression. I think that by taking this freedom away from us is just going to create hatred and force people to stray further from conformity and less likely to be friendly with the powers that be. They should be encouraging people to use these talents constructively not arresting and punishing them.

Sorry to rant on.

Danny.

This is just a bit much.

Yes, graffiti is wrong, but overreacting to it is worse. In my home town of (redacted) we actually ended up forming a program for urban art that takes up a significant part of the downtown area, all graffiti type art. It is the foundation for our arts district and helps deter the stereotypical image of us all being completely out of tune with the generations.
On top of that, I could understand them having a kind of probation for someone who commits crimes to not carry certain items, but for those items to be required for a long running legitimate business it is absurd.

While this is bad unfortunately there has been much much worse, I hope that one day things may change.

All I can say is that people should avoid London during the Olympics, I got a bad feeling about this one.

Me too but unfortunately I am on a 9 day uni residential course starting on the day the Olympics starts :(

I still can't believe we have to resort to surface to air missile launchers on top of buildings.

whenever i read somthing about that, all i think about is a load of terrorists breaking into the buildings, stealing them and using the launchers as their method...
Terrorists! come to the UKm we will supply the weapons!

im getting really annoyed about how the UK and US governments have been getting worse and worse...

The problem is that in a credit crunch, rights tend to be put aside because "the Government knows best"

Ryan Lochte won a gold medal, and that's all I care for the olympics. Why do I care for him? I met him when I was volunteering as a timer for the regionals.

As for the thread, well, I think if a graffiti artist makes cool graffiti, I'd leave him to do it. There are some pretty epic graffitied walls in Greece that I've seen, and on the Berlin wall, I've heard.

Oh, it gets better. Not one but two flying objects were clearly seen during the opening ceremony.

I would speculate that the effects seen may have been generated by one or more blue/green lasers being scanned on the inside of the blimp, generating any number of strange patterns.

I don't even have a spaceship and I find the olympics too boring to watch; why would aliens be doing so?

I didn't read anything about a second object though, where'd you see that?
