Bomb Shackles and Quick Releases.
how is it these work? ive looked up B-17's F-16's and everything in between and cant find anything useful. supporting a 500, 1000, or 2000 pound bomb at 2-4 G's is no trivial matter.
Ive seen on many mythbusters episodes a quick release used to hold and letgo of high tension, yet the pull cord seems light to activate? how is all this done?
I can see here the eyelet is split and allowed to open, letting the lug or eyelet out. But if there isnt some clever trick, it would take enormous force to keep closed or trigger open. I cant find the rest of this document yet, i think its a patent art thing.

Its all about leverage. The attached pic is a quick release shackle used on boats. There is a fixed line tied to the top loop, the releasable line loops into the bottom loop. The bottom loop has a pivot (lower right pin) and a catch (upper left opposite pull ring). Under tension the releasable line sits close to the pivot, so the load on the catch is only a small fraction of the tension load. Releasing the catch only requires enough force to over come friction, and a small internal spring.
I would say the quick release you are talking about operates on a similar principle.

The greatest movie ever made, Peter Sellers, Slim pickens, george C. Scott, James earl jones...
masterful acting from peter sellers playing 3 characters, the US president, captain mandrake, and dr strangelove...
Peter Sellers was also supposed to play the role of major king kong, but felt 4 roles was too much, at the last minute slim pickens was chosen for the senior pilot.
