Hey,
how well would this ferrite core do for DRSSTC useage,
and if its incorrect, would someone be able to link me to a decent one?
Link2

thanks,
Thomas Williamson

EDIT:

Hi, I have used Epcos B64290L618X830 for current transformers (feedback and OCD) and B64290L659X830 for GDT with very good results on my DRSSTC (see also this thread Link2
They are from the same series of the second core you indicated but I didn't check the differences

I have checked and they are available on Farnell UK site.

I've been using these: Link2 B64290L0674X087 with excellent results on my SSTCs. They are a tad small though as I can just fit 15 turns of insulated trifiliar 22ga on them and no more without overlapping.

I'll have to give the ones Maurizio Valvo reccommended a try when I decide to do a pentafiliar GDT for a full bridge.

for drivers im using the 6A Single MOSFET Drivers:
MCP1407-E/P
and
MCP1406-E/P
will they be ok?
they cost only 61p each so thats quite abit less then those awful £4 uccs

the question is what switch charge/capacitance are you planning to drive? basically 6 Amps are capable for driving TO-247 half-bridge. UCC with 9 amps, capable for Full bridge ISOTOPS, but if you are planning to drive big bricks, you could try the Steve ward's UD2.0 or the "on the brick gate driver circuit" (Steve ward's or Steve conner's designs)

on my country, we don't have those ICs, UCC and MCP or even TC, MAX.. what i am using is a discrete circuit (credit to Dr. Pork) that never uses those ICs, so far, my circuit never failed me =).. capable of driving bricks through GDT.

irfp460s , please be cautious on your decoupling caps, as this fets are knowned for popping =).. I used those fets before and satisfied for SSTC applications but when I drive those for DRSSTC, the results are somewhat unstable.. =/
6 Amps driver are powerful enough driving these fets =),. i drove them before using TC4427 only (1.5 Amps) half bridge, dont know if they are capable in F bridge.

Hey Thomas,

If you need a couple of basic gate transformer cores, I can mail you a few if you need them. These are basically the Fair-Rite 77/78 material and about 1" x 0.5" in size.

Just PM me with your address if you are interested.
Thanks
