What is difference between ne555 and 555cn?

youll have to get that makers datasheet, many ic are funtionally equivelnt, yet have deifferent specs. if i recall, the CN version is CMOS on st devices, while the NE is bipolar.

Some are faster, some are better at cold or heat (mil-std) and so on... about 10 years ago there was a company that tried to make 0.9 volt 555's, so they could run off a single cell, not sure where that went.

Letters before the base part number (555) are the manufacturer code. So the NE555 is made by whoever owns "NE", originally Signetics but they are long gone. Probably NXP or TI now.

Letters after the base part number denote things like temperature range and package style. "CN" probably means commercial temperature range, DIP package. The IC manufacturers all use their own in-house codes.

So to summarise, the original question is invalid. The NE555 and the 555CN could even be the same chip, full part number NE555CN.
