GDT help

Browsing Digi-Key for a toroid for my GDT and came across -this one- The core is T38 material, and has an Al value of 10700. Any ideas if this core will work for a Tesla Coil GDT operating at around 1MHz?

As for winding it, Uzzors2k wound his 4MHz Class-E Coil GDTs with more primary turns than secondary turns. So I'm just curious as to if winding mine with more primary turns than secondary turns will help gate drive? Say 10 primary turns and like 6 secondary turns, or should I just twist a tri-filar set and wind an even amount?...

a transformers turns determine nothing more than inductance. turns ration just is a preportion of in to out, so more pri turns than sec just means it steps down voltage.

if anything you could use a amaller core. look at: N=(V*T)/(Ae*B) to figure out N(minimum turns for a given frequency)

I know that, but I was just wondering if having a smaller secondary helps with high frequency gate drive.l I have seen Class-E PLL coils on YouTube that only have a one turn primary and secondary..I guess having less inductance would dramatically help at higher frequencies. I have made my GDT with 5 turns of 3 wires wrapped around a core about the size of the one in the link. Now who knows if the core is suitable, but testing will determine that.

Richie Burnett's original Class-E circuit used resonant gate drive where the gate capacitance was part of a tuned circuit. In this case, the leakage inductance of the GDT is also part of the resonant circuit, so it doesn't have to be wound bifilar.
